The American Friends of Jamaica will host its 26th Annual New
York Gala and Auction, on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at
Cipriani 23rd St., New York.. Known for their elegance as well
as their good purpose, AFJ benefits are attended byJamaican and
American businesspersons, social sector leaders, political figures,
and members of the diplomatic corps. The event raises funds for
Jamaican non-profits in the areas
of education, health, and human and economic development.
This signature event also honors individuals and companies that
have distinguished themselves in contributing to Jamaica with the
AFJ International Humanitarian Award. This year the AFJ honors Louise
and Edgar Cullman, for their devotion and significant contributions
to Jamaica. Past honorees
have included Chris Blackwell, American fashion icon Ralph Lauren
and his wife, Ricky, Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, Sandals' founder
Gordon "Butch" Stewart, Canada's Michael Lee-Chin, the Jamaican-born
billionaire, philanthropist, and high-profile investor, GraceKennedy,
Former President Ronald Reagan and Diageo, to name a few.
