Louise and Edgar Cullman have been actively involved in a wide range of philanthropic and civic organizations. During the Second World War, Louise worked for the American Woman's Volunteer Services and later became a Nurse's Aid at New York Hospital. She was a member of the Board of Montefiore Hospital and Blythedale Children's Hospital. She was the first woman to serve on the Conservation Foundation Board, which gave her a great understanding of the importance of conversation. She has been on the Board of the Wildlife Conservation Society since 1980 and is now Emeriti. Louise is presently on the Board of The Tryall Fund in Jamaica and was one of the original Board members since its inception in 1964. She has been largely instrumental in raising funds to assist in healthcare and education in the Parish of Hanover. The Fund assists the Sandy Bay Health Clinic by providing a doctor and a nursing staff and other beneficial projects. Louise often refers to Jamaica as her second home, and on her visits, she is very often seen at the clinic visiting with the people. The Tryall Fund, under Louise's guidance, also provides assistance in the field of Education to the Parish, by providing scholarships for high school students, and in exceptional circumstances, assists students at a University Level. Under Louise's leadership, the Fund has also been helpful in improving school facilities, rebuilding libraries, setting up a Teacher's Training Program, providing necessary technology and computer equipment to schools, and more recently, setting up a computer lab and instructor at Tryall. Louise has unselfishly given her time and efforts to improving the lives of the people in Jamaica and she feels a special love and connection to its people. Edgar was formerly the Chairman of the Board of General Cigar Holdings, Inc. and had a premium cigar factory in Kingston, Jamaica making Macanudo and Partaga cigars. He is now actively a Managing Member of Culbro, LLC in New York City. He serves on the Board of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville. He served on many committees at Yale College. Both the Hotchkiss School and Yale College honored him with their highest alumni awards. Edgar has been particularly involved with organizations in Jamaica. For many years, he was a member of the US Business Committee on Jamaica, under the direction of David Rockefeller. In 1989, he received the award of Commander of Distinction from the Government of Jamaica. He is one of the only two Americans to receive the award. Edgar and Louise Cullman have three children: Lucy (Mrs. Frederick M. Danziger), Edgar Cullman Jr. (married to the former Elissa Forman); and Susan B. Cullman (married to John Kirby); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
